Jessica Morrsion, owner and operator of The Hair HQ, a thriving hair salon in Peoria, AZ came to Stuart Design Co to build out their new space. Jessica knew it was time to double the size of her thriving salon when a space in her building came up for lease. Fully gutting the space in addition to adding a restroom in the suite made for an exciting process. And the final result does not dissapoint; with custom wall paper, coffee shop vibes and the professional atmosphere her clients are accustomed to.
Jessica built a salon business with a great reputation and when building the new space wanted to level up the amentities.
The drive to increase the size of the salon was not only to serve more clients, but to include a better customer experience.
The new space was ready to be fit out with a private restroom for her clients. Not having to leave the salon with wet hair or even foils in to walk down the hall to a shared space was high on the priority list.
To keep costs low we worked through a space plan to include (3) hair washing stations and complete ADA restroom.
Through design development, we determined the wall covering Jessica had seen on Pinterest was a thin, repositionalby paper, not suitable for the commercial space. Additionally, it was only available in 8' lengths, where the ceiling are 9' and the flower pattern was too small to create the drama intended.
We worked through out industry partners to gain rights to the image, increase the scale of the pattern to be more appropriate for the large wall it was planned for, and ensure it was printed on a commercial vinyl to function properly in the space.
The Hair HQ has a bustling atmosphere with the mission to provide high-end services in a laid back, friendly environment. The Hair HQ has been serving the Northwest Vally since 2019 & continues to increase in popularity.
With the opportunity to expand the footprint of the salon, Jessica dreamed of escalating the high-end experience her clients are accustomed to. Keeping optimal functionality and traffic flow in mind, adding a private restroom as well as including a private break area with laundry for the stylists were top goals for the space.
We were able to partner with Jessica, her vision and mission to create a cozy atmosphere that creates comfort and confidence for everyone who chooses The Hair HQ.
The current space was open concept with tons of large windows - great for a hair salon specializing in color transformations.
However, modifying the space to add a wheel chair accessible restroom, (3) shampoo bowls and a stylist break room was a tall order. By laying out the space on the plans and taping out the physical space with painter's tape on the ground, Jessica had a full vision of how clients would move around the salon.
The ability to add a private stylist break room equipt with a washer and dryer added immense value to the built out.
Having the new space right downstairs and in the same building gave us and the owner an opportunty to keep involved in the project throughout the buildout.
With trusted construction partner, Bare Renovation, we knew we could trust the job was being done right every step of the way.
After opening the walls, we found the electrical was out of date and wouldn't pass code. Working with the landlord & the team, we were able to be solution-focused and modify some of the design to account for the budget surprise in the electrical.
The window film design was changed form a gradient fading to 0% opacity to a standard opacity terminating 1' from the top of the window, saving on material costs. A tile backsplash to the beverage bar was replaced with paint and custom logo sign became a labor of do0it-yourself love instead of purchasing.
Construction surprises are inevitable, creative solutions are key.
A laid-back, friendly enviroment is what Jessica Morrison asked for in the space. The colors, materials and finishes were an ode to the original salon and keeping on-brand.
Our partnership flourished in the specification and construction administration phases with heavy support on functionality and executing the design concepts. With our experience, we were able to consult on the pros and cons of the design vision and work out common pitfalls before they became a challenges during construction.
Clients are commenting on the "peaceful, welcoming atmosphere" and "amazing experience from start to finish!" Not only does the space accomplish the business goals to scale, clients are also noticing.
